Single Dad

Nancy is off to Dallas to visit Sephora’s call center there.  She’ll be gone for 12 days.  And today is her birthday.  When she arrived at her hotel she went out for dinner at Denny’s.  It was the only place open.  They give you a free Grand Slam on your birthday, she ordered the chicken.  Good for you , honey!

I am missing my wife very much. I am already feeling the incompleteness already closing in.  And Spencer and Eva, I feel like they are missing their mom.  Earlier tonight Eva kept pointing upstairs and whimpering a bit.   She’s used to her mom being home at a certain time.  They need their mom’s kind heart and soft words.  I’m all about getting them consistent in a firm way.  This is only the tip of a very big iceberg to the reasons why it is important to have parents for children.  I’ve been a stay at home dad for just about three years now I can say that no matter how one feels prepared to be a single parent you’re always going to be missing something.  I applaud those who are single parents, it’s got to be one of the hardest jobs to have.

I can’t wait for Nancy to come home.

Tahoe Trip

We took a weekend off and went to Lake Tahoe and it was pretty fun.  Half vacation half anniversary getaway.  It’s always good to go on a trip with the kids once and a while to renew the reasons why we shouldn’t go on trips with our kids. Eva didn’t sleep too well because she’s not used to a room being so quiet.  Spencer on the other had had a blast just being in the hotel jumping from bed to bed, table to table.  We did get to eat quite well.  Everything was comped which says a lot for my mom’s gambling luck.

I personally like road trips but the trip back home really tested my patience.  It took an extra hour and a half to get back home.  The plus side is that you can really rediscover the scenery when you’re going four miles an hour.  But we keep going out with them. Go figure.

iPhone 4 Adventure Part 2 (8/21/20010)

Ok, trying again. So far, 9:50am, the only stores open at 9am are Radio Shacks. I have called every radio shack in a 20 mile radius. All 18 of them. Three have the 32gb which is quite promising but not willing to pay the extra $$. I’ve also put my name on a waiting list at our Radio Shack in our mall. The lady there says I am number 11 on the list. Waiting for 10am to come by so I can call our WalMart.

Update:
Decided, after calling every Wal Mart and every Best Buy, that it’s just better to wait. I put my name on a list at our Radio Shack. Hopefully I’ll get a call soon. Ugh.

iPhone 4 Adventure (8/20/2008)

Nancy is getting the new iPhone 4 today. I’m not so excited since it won’t be my phone, sniffle, sniffle. But I thought to document the whole process of getting one since AT&T is so prone to bad customer service. We have to go to the AT&T store instead of the Apple store because I get a 50% discount on accessories and will definitely have to get a case for it. And it’s probably less crazy in an AT&T store instead of an Apple store as far as the kids are concerned. So here we go to Emeryville for an iPhone and some a cool Train visit for Spencer.

Out of stock! Tried the AT&T store as well but they are only take pre-orders. I broke my own rule about calling first. They recommended I call the Apple store in Downtown SF between 11:30 and 3. Weird. Going to the Emeryville Market for some Thai food.

At the Amtrak station there’s this bridge that you take an elevator up to. When we got in Spencer says, “Smells like poo poo daddy.” This is what I call a S.K.S.E. moment – Smart Kid , Stinky Elevator.

Inception

Nancy and I went and saw “Inception.”  Dark City meets the Matrix.  Or, Dark City II.  I really liked the concept and would love to see this as a TV series. Leonardo was good.  I’m glad he is growing up.  I actually like movies where he gets beat up.  The more he gets beat up the more I feel like he’s feeling some remorse for Titanic.  Nancy feels like maybe they should have picked another actress for Leo’s wife.  I feel like they should have done better with the “Architect” character.  If you like action you’ll dig this movie.  And it’s cerebral as well.  If you don’t know what “cerebral” means then you’ll have a tough time with this movie.

Day at the beach

The Whitney’s and the Toepfer’s came and visited us and we all went to the Alameda beach! The wind was a tad bit chilly but the water was actually very nice. I didn’t know David was part fish. It was also nice to finally see RJ post Marine Corps. Spencer was just absolutely happy being around so many of his cousins. Chandler just couldn’t help but steal kisses from Eva. It was cute.  And Tyler Ann is getting to be the awesome little lady that she is. Darryl got a bit of a sun burn while napping with Max. Max was pooped at the beach. Pooped as in tired.
